CLICK HERE TO DONATE TODAYThrough village banking we put small loans of $100 in the hands of poverty stricken women via their local financial associations. The loans are guaranteed by the recipients and are used to set up small businesses. More than 90 cents of every dollar donated to COCAD goes straight to the loan capital and approximately 85% of the loans are repaid as these women move to self-sufficiency.
Microcredit Program
It is designed to lay a firm foundation for employment, empowerment, thus improving participants standard of living. The program has already benefited more than 2,500 people in rural communities.
Our primary focus has been on small-scale projects in microfinance. To date, more than five hundred targeted women successfully set up small businesses in the following localities of Northern Haiti: Bahon, Caracol, Desplantes, Grande- Rivière-du-Nord, Grand Pré, Madeline, Ranquitte and Northeastern Mountains of Haiti: Camizar, Dupity, Grosse-Roche and Roquay.
Scholarships
Through the education fund COCAD has been able to provide scholarships for underprivileged and talented individuals who otherwise would not have been able to secure their futures through education.
Training
COCAD provides training in microcredit management and organizational development to current and prospective clients.
COCAD started a small-scale grain storage facility which enables separate communities in the northeastern mountains of Haiti (Dupity, Grosse Roche, Camisard and Roquay) to stock grain (beans, pigeon peas, millet and corn) in-season when the price is low and to resell off-season when the price is high; this creates additional income to benefit community members collectively.
Income Generating Group Project
In Grande-Riviere-du-Nord, the members have pulled their resources together and used generated savings to purchase cows which are kept by a farmer and resold in due time at a profit which is then shared among contributors.
With your generous financial support we can expand our circle of helping envelop by implementing the following short-term and long-term goals:
